Gabriela Strong Cintron

I was inspired by the shabby chic and coquette style/aesthetic, which utilizes a lot of pinks, beiges, vintage florals, and hearts. I found inspiration from these styles on social media a lot, more specifically on Pinterest. I was also inspired to set up my quilt square in the typical 9 patch block pattern that was originally created in the 19th century, and wanted to put my own twist and style on it by using fabrics that match my color and style preferences. 

I hope that viewers of my work appreciate the raw femininity of these styles and that it urges them to think about the origins of quilting and the women throughout history that have come together in quilting. Through the project, I was able to learn about the cultural legacy that quilting holds for many people (for example, in Gee’s Bend), and that communities are brought together in miraculous ways through the creation of art
