My overall inspiration for this assignment stemmed from wanting to learn how to hand sew. Not only did I do that, but I was also able to incorporate many of the artistic
techniques that were discussed in class into my quilt square. Some of these techniques included; contrasting patterns, shapes, and color schemes. Before drawing up a design, I explored many online museums that featured quilts to gather ideas. (Prior to this class I did not know online galleries existed, so I thought it would be an interesting thing to note.)

Through this project I have learned to become open minded. I’ve realized art doesn’t always have to be perfect and any creation has the potential to be valued. A personal goal of mine is to continue improving my sewing abilities. Who knows, maybe I’ll even sew my own quilt some day. Overall my hopes for this quilt is to inspire self expression and appreciation for individualism. Realizing this quilt wouldn’t have been created if it wasn’t for a group of people expressing themselves through art and coming together as a community.
