Inspiration:
If I’m being quite honest, before looking at any of the materials I had no idea what I wanted to do. As a Hot Dog enjoyer, when I found the fabric I knew I had to incorporate it into whatever I did. I then found the Watermelon and knew it had to be a Summer Barbecue. I found the Levi’s Denim Pocket from a Kids Jacket in our community fabric pile and thought it would add an American touch. For the purpose of symmetry I made a leaf shape of leafy fabric to put in the opposite corner of the Levi’s pocket. There was little thought behind the base and trim.

Purpose:
The intent of this piece is to strike a patriotic chord in the hearts of my fellow Americans, because a Summer Barbecue is one of the greatest things to exist. Hopefully it inspires others to eat hotdogs and watermelon in Levi’s or something.

Experience:
I learned that sewing is a very patient practice. As someone who likes to rush things, this project taught me a bit of a lesson. Move too fast, start bleeding. Also it made me respect the grandmas that sew often, their hands are so soft yet so relentless fighting through the pain of arthritis
